Found these lovely flowers at Designsponge a while back and fell in love. They are in full bloom in many farms in California this time of year. The ranunculus is from the same family as the buttercup and a relative of the anemone, but has a more complex petal pattern and comes in a wider variety of colors. They are a tuberous-rooted plant and the most common variety used as a cut flower is the Ranunculus Asiaticus, or Persian Buttercup. The name comes from the Latin “rana”, meaning “frog” (after the moist environments where many members of the Ranunculaceae family typically grow).
We were part of a fabulous (and somewhat historical) event organized by Oasis Magazine that took place at L’Art Pur Gallery. The exhibition showcased over 25 young and extremely talented emerging artists in the region. It was totally awesome (this is me working on my bubbly personality) to be a part of it. Seriously there were young Saudi girls standing by my paintings looking at them in wonder. They couldn’t believe a woman painter made such bold statements with composition and color. I’m all “go girl power!”
I’ve been away in the land of enchantment. I just got back from the city of magic. Spent three days in Paris for the Maison et Objet expo and it was action packed. I got to look at some great art, which actually Paris is one big museum in itself. The weather took some getting used to coming from Riyadh, but I hardly took notice after the first day. There was too much to see. Here’s my first walk past Jardin de Tuileries.
