Youssef Nabil: Photographer

Youssef Nabil was born in Cairo. He lives and works in New York City. According to his biography, he grew up in Cairo drenched in the cinema of the ‘golden age of Hollywood on the Nile’. He recalls with nostalgia the glamour, ease, elegance, and melodrama of that world in black and white. He captures his images in grayscale and manually colorizes. Loving the effect!

Charlie: Portraits

Hey everyone, this is Charlie! Well, he’s the man of the house at the moment and our prince charming. I’ve never been around a boy dog before and now that Charlie’s maturing into a handsome young man, I’m fascinated at the similarities between all male species. He does keep us women of the house in check, as little as he may be. And don’t get all mushy on him, it’s his biggest turn off. Boy does he love you when you play hard to get. What’s the secret to his heart? I went straight to my brother for advice, “give him some beef jerkey”. Hmmmmm…I should have known!

I still haven’t given in to the beef jerkey method but he’s slowly warming up to me again. I love his sense of independance and I’m slowly learning to form a connection within that space. Once he does feel close to you, he is the warmest, sweetest, most loving spirit.

Our Anniversary.

Anniversary 2008

This year my husband and I celebrated our Two-year anniversary apart. Being on the other side of the world and feeling so close just shows how far we’ve come since our first date six years ago. My advice ladies, don’t be afraid to love. I took the leap and I’m glad I did.

Houston Heights Urban Market.

There’s an antique outdoor market that takes place the first Saturday of every month in the Houston Heights. This month it took place on Mother’s Day and a perfect occasion to be outside with mom! Spent the morning walking around with hats and sunglasses, looking at unique finds and enjoying the sun shining, the sound of birds chirping, and the smell of grass.

The Art Car Parade took place in Houston along Allen Parkway this weekend and boy was it a blast! It’s always an inspiration and a delight to see what Houstonians come up with for the parade. Here are just a few of the things that caught my eye:

Nina Simone : Feeling Good

DSC01283.JPG

Birds flying high you know how I feel
Sun in the sky you know how I feel
Reeds driftin on by you know how I feel

Its a new dawn
Its a new day
Its a new life
For me
And Im feeling good

Fish in the sea you know how I feel
River running free you know how I feel
Blossom in the tree you know how I feel

Dragonfly out in the sun you know what I mean, dont you know
Butterflies all havin fun you know what I mean
Sleep in peace when day is done
Thats what I mean

And this old world is a new world
And a bold world
For me

Stars when you shine you know how I feel
Scent of the pine you know how I feel
Oh freedom is mine
And I know how I feel
